Things To Consider Before Decorating

Want to decorate your house? It’s a great way to up the value of your property, or just make your home feel a bit more like home. As an experienced decorator in Hastings, we can assure you that you shouldn’t rush into it. Remember, any mistakes you make now and mistakes you will literally have to live with. So before you lever the lids off those paint tins, here are a couple of things to bear in mind.

Have A Plan

Decorating isn’t something you can make up as you go along. You don’t have to draw up blueprints, but have a good idea of what sort of colour scheme, you want and what sort of style you’re going for. Having a plan to keep going back to will help you keep track of just how well the decorating is going during the project.

Research, Research, Research

Forewarned is forearmed as the saying goes. There are plenty of magazines, websites and TV shows out there that will show you what others have done and what options might work for you. If you see something you like, safe it to your hard drive or tear the page out and keep it for future reference. Once you’ve got a selection of designs, go through and pick out your favourite bits from each one. Try to work out what appeals to you, and what puts you off.

Once you’ve decided what you want, stick with it. Doubt and uncertainty are your enemies here. No regrets!

Put Your Work In The Right Light

As much as the wallpaper and the colour scheme, lighting can make or break a room. It has a huge effect on the ambience, making the room feel open and spacious or small and cosy. Lighting is important tto the point where it can actually have a chemical effect on you, raising oxytocin levels responsible for feelings of joy. So, as you’re planning your decorating, think very carefully about where the light sources are going to be and how that will play off the choice of colours that you’re using.

Space, Man

One thing that’s easy to forget as you’re thinking about all the furniture, storage space and ornamentation you want to put into a room is space. Empty floor space can be one of the most valuable commodities in a room, and you need to think carefully about how much you have and what you get in return when you use it.

Keep all these tips in mind, and your room should look fantastic.
